Two Gardens

There are few man-made sights more resplendent,

Than a well groomed garden scene.

It can lead our thoughts to be transcendent

Of this world, so bitterly mean.

I‘ve been surrounded by fields of roses, near

Wasco city, in Central Cal.

And seen the acres of red tulips each year

As the mild crosswinds made them bow.

I’ve rested in grand, well-designed backyards

Marveling at their beauty

That would challenge the most talented bards

Performing their verbal duty.

I’ve seen special gardens, like Forrest Lawn,

Where our loved ones are reposing,

Awaiting the impending glorious dawn

And Satan’s final deposing.

Yet, there are two gardens with more impact

Upon one’s fleeing finite life.

First, where Adam broke God’s Eden contract

Along with Eve; his fallen wife.

And Gethsemane where Christ submitted

To die for us upon the cross

That we could be restored and admitted

To heaven, free of sinful dross.

Two gardens, one of revolt, one of surrender

Exemplify our choice and fate.

One leads to ruin, the other to splendor

Which choice will you emulate?
